I had an older couple, pretty nice during the greet, if not particularly chatty. She gets slaw instead of fries with her burger. I ring it in, and I'm taking an order 2 tables away

when another server runs it. As she walks back past me, she whispers "34 wants you when you're done." So i finish up with that table, walk over, and notice she's got fries on her plate. Go "oh no! Did

they forget your slaw? I'm so sorry. Give me just a second and I'll grab some!" Walk into the back, grab her a side of slaw. Takes maybe 30 seconds. Set it down. Whole

location is so much better, you get the gist. Now mind you, we DID run her the wrong side. But she went on about it for so long that she could've been finished with the damn slaw by this point if her

mistake. The thing is, from where I'm standing, the situation has been rectified. So I'm just not sure what it is you'd like me to do here." "No it is NOT rectified. It's TOO LATE. The fries are HERE and now

I have to sit here and look at them." "Okay! Why don't I take your plate, remove the fries, and bring you the burger back with just the slaw?" "NO. It's too late now, I'm EATING."

"Alright, so what WOULD you like me-" She cuts me off. Full on, hand in the face, and goes "go away." With pleasure.

I got like 3 tables away, and i was like, man I'm really NOT feeling snarky today, but I'm also not feeling like a doormat so I'm gonna have to say SOMETHING. So I turned back around. Walked back up to the table. Knelt down,

so i was eye level with this woman. And went "Hey just for the record? I truly, from the bottom of my heart, am SO sorry that you got the wrong side. I really am. But I'm also a human being, with feelings. And

you really hurt them." Genuinely. Kicked puppy expression. Loudly enough for other tables to hear. And then walked away.

Color me shocked when the very next time I walked up to check on them, that woman gave me an incredibly sincere apology, was a dream guest the rest of the meal, and then tipped well.

Global-Nectarine4417 Top 1% Commenter . 4d ago Classy, smart response. I've had something like that work for me before too. But most times, if you tell me to "go away," I will. No refills, no to go containers, no nothing till you look ready for the check. I'm very obedient.

onlinerev . 4d ago Dude. This is really incredible. That was a perfectly professional way to let her know her behavior was unacceptable. Well done.

No-Appearance1145 • 4d ago That kicked puppy look is apparently something I do. naturally and I've made teachers nervous doing it (unintentionally as a literal child) and they wouldn't leave me alone the rest of class. It's surprisingly effective especially if it's just natural. Good job making her realize you are a person!
